Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded. (James 4:8)

The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it (John 1:5)

These two scriptures go hand in hand in today’s reflection about our intimacy with God. In James 4:8, we find a promise, the promise that if we draw near to God, He will draw near to us. His promises are always yes and amen and one can rely on them without hesitation as they are everlasting. What a relief and assurance to know that our Heavenly Father has His hands wide open ready to bless us in a wonderful way.

In John 1:15, God being described as the light drawing near to us, will destroy darkness and the latter has no other option but to flee away.

There is a condition though, something which we need to do from our end. James clearly tells us that we need to cleanse our hands and purify our hearts. It is not something we can expect from God to do for us, it is something we have to strive for. In other words, let us earnestly seek holiness (see Hebrews 12:14). Once we live in that state with the grace and empowerment of God, He will bring HIS light into our lives and darkness will have no grip on us.

Therefore let us soak in God’s Word, sing praises to HIM and strive to live a set apart (Holy) life and we will live in intimacy with God, that place where things happen, addiction are conquered, sickness is destroyed and life would become victorious in Christ Jesus.
