“And we have the prophetic word (made) firmer still. You will do well to pay close attention to it as to a lamp shining in a dismal (squalid and dark) place, until the day breaks through (the gloom) and the Morning Star rises (comes into being) in your hearts.” 2 Peter 1:9
My point of focus today will be on the Word of God described as a “lamp shining in a dismal.” The Greek word for dismal is ‘auchmeros’ meaning a filthy, dirty and obscure place. It came to my mind one of those scenes from the movies ‘Indiana Jones’ in which the actor would be walking inside an underground, secret passage, in pitch darkness and all he can here are squeaks and crackling underneath his feat and when he manages to get some illumination, he realises that he is in the middle of thousands of roaches and rats.
It is an extreme analogy, which most probably (hopefully) we will never encounter in life, however the picture is very similar when we look with our spiritual ‘eyes’. We are living in a world infested with demons, evil spirit and their fruit. A spiritual realm full of filth causing all sorts of oppression in the form of addictions, relationships problems, depressions and other conditions inducing people to oppressive slavery int he natural realm. The Bible is that only source of light, which will help us understand the filth as we start seeing it exposed in our lives and all around us, it will not only help us see it but will give us the knowledge to use the power made available to us by the Holy Spirit through Jesus to remove the entanglement we have been into practically since the day we were born.
What today is our light which will direct our paths, will be the measuring stick by which we will be judged when we come in front of the throne of judgement. Eternity is a loooong time for us to be wrong about it. What you sow today, you will reap tomorrow.
