“But if serving the LORD seems undesirable to you, then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your ancestors served beyond the Euphrates, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you are living. But as for me and my household, we will serve the LORD.” (Joshua 24:15)

The other day I heard a  preacher stating “There is no such thing as a part-time Christian.” Confronted with this declaration I had some time of reflection as I firmly believe that such statement is worth some time to ponder about.

Throughout all the Bible, all those who are called man and women of God had something in common. They gave it all to serve HIM wholeheartedly. There were times in which they felt weak and ‘missed the mark’ but by their deep understand of who God is and their willingness to live for HIM powered by the help of the Holy Spirit, they were always able to rise up and continue to serve the Lord with passion and determination pressing towards the end Goal that is to please the Lord in everything they do.

Today’s way of thinking and philosophies are pushing more towards living in the shadowy area. They would say, do no live in the dark because that is bad but staying in the light is another extreme which you do not want to be in. So be balanced, live and let live.

Even though the latter statement will sound familiar and popular to many, it is not the way Christ called us HIS followers to live. “Do not suppose that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I did not come to bring peace, but a sword.” (Matthew 10:34) – Through this statement, Jesus made it very clear that He did not come to bring unity at all cost but came to reveal the true peace which can only be established via a relationship with the Heavenly Father through HIM.

Talking about peace, such a relationship can be only achieved through holiness as stated in Hebrew 12:14 “Make every effort to live in peace with everyone and to be holy; without holiness no one will see the Lord.”

Holiness means to be set apart. Therefore the author of Hebrews is clearly stating that we need to live in the Light like a lamp on a stand visible to all creation (Matthew 5:15). All this entails sacrifice, however the good news is that there is far better reward which will make all this sacrifice worthwhile to carry.

Living in the shade is Satan’s deceit. The comfort zone which will lead us to a dead end. It is time to take a stand. My prayer for you is that the Lord will convict your heart to take a definitive stand for HIM, your only way to achieve true inner peace and most of all eternal life.

“Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship. Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.” (Romans 12:1-2)
