Then the Lord sent a great wind on the sea, and such a violent storm arose that the ship threatened to break up. All the sailors were afraid and each cried out to his own god. And they threw the cargo into the sea to lighten the ship.

But Jonah had gone below deck, where he lay down and fell into a deep sleep. The captain went to him and said, “How can you sleep? Get up and call on your god! Maybe he will take notice of us so that we will not perish.” (Jonah 1:4-6)

Jonah was escaping from the Lord’s will for him because he did not want to save Israel’s enemies in Nineveh. This is a picture which can illustrate today’s church. We are encountering passiveness in church because the members within the body of Christ have other priorities rather than fulfilling their God given priority.

All this is not allowing the Holy Spirit to move with power in the midst such churches. The devastating consequence is that there are people drowning in severe storms out there and we are just passively looking at them drown without reaching out.

As with Jonah, being passive to God’s calling can not only endanger ourselves but also the ones around us. This is a wake up call church to set our priorities right and submit to God’s will even if it means sacrificing what is today our main priority. Nothing is more worth than your eternity. Think about that…..

Heavenly Father, it must hurt a lot seeing the condition of the church after you gave all yourself to save her. We want to ask you for forgiveness as we commit ourselves to repent and turn from our evil ways. As you promised once we do so you will heal lour land (2 Chronicles 7:14). We want a fresh start a revival in our churches, but we know that for this to happen there needs to be an awakening from our part. Today is the day, we commit to You and to Your glorious ways. In Jesus Name we pray….Amen
