You shall be holy, for I the Lord your God am holy (Leviticus 19:2)
When God calls us to be holy, he is not speaking to the religious elite or to the Jews only. He is speaking to us. God has not called us to live impure lives but to walk in holiness, to be holy as he is holy.
What is Holiness? To be holy is to be set apart. Set apart from the old self and totally dedicated to walk in the ways of the Lord. Yes it entails sacrifices to constantly say no to the flesh and yes to the will of God. I want to add that it also requires hours of crying to God to help us realise that we have already been set free from the chains of sin and death.
Searching our delight in the Lord is essential and the more we press on in doing God’s will the less the grip of this world will be felt.
Spending quality time in the Lord, reading His Word, prayer and worship, not if we feel like it but constantly without ceasing. In other words be committed to it.
Allowing the Holy Spirit to work in us will mean that we will shift our interests and longings from this world to what’s eternal.
Therefore let us strive for holiness and seek to please God in everything we do.
