“How can a young man keep his way pure? By living according to your word.” (Psalm 119:9)
Holiness might be perceived as an unreachable word by many as most of the time it is compared to perfection. It is true that the only One who is worthy to be called Holy is God almighty, however as Christians Jesus is calling us to be Holy, “Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect.” (Matthew 5:48)
How can this be, if we are mere humans with all sorts of faults and downfalls? Well the Bible is the source of answers and we can find a clear answer in today’s verse. Living according to your word that is living according to what the Word of God says. Now many people will say but it is too hard to live God’s world in today’s society!
Yes it is very hard for us humans who were born with a corrupt nature and a natural instinct to do what is wrong to live on the road towards perfection and holiness, however God did not leave us alone to achieve this daunting task.
Jesus promised, “And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Counselor to be with you forever.” (John 14:16) – Therefore now we have the blessed assurance to know that we will not be alone during this lifetime journey. We will have the same agent who rose Jesus from the dead empowering us to live a life which will give glory and honour to the Lord God our Father.
We certainly do not lack power. So what is missing? The only missing thing which God cannot give us is our willingness to lay down our lives for the glory to one who gave us eternal life. This is a call for all those of you who have been stammering to let go of this world and decide to live in the light. It does also serve as a fuel injection to all those brethren who have been pressing on in THE WAY and feel spent or even over burnt. “Do not do it on your own as you will never manage to finish the race. Power is available to you my friend.”
So as from today let us go back to the basics and let our closest friend the Holy Spirit guide us through the Word of God. Let all the hundreds of promises found in the Bible become our daily living foundation. Only if we commit to this we can truly experience a touch of heaven from this life.
The best is yet to come !!
