Meditation from Luke 1:1-38

Comparing Zechariah and Mary’s questioning

“How can I know this? ” Zechariah asked the angel. “For I am an old man, and my wife is well along in years.” Zechariah enquired the angel after the latter told him that his wife will conceive a child.

Mary asked the angel, “How can this be, since I have not been intimate with a man? ” This was after the angel announced to Mary that she will bare the Son of the Most Holy One.

At first glance these questions seem to be just inquisitive, however their motives are different.

While Mary’s question was based on a submissive and humble attitude, Zechariah though a man of God, he questioned in doubt and that is why angel Gabriel made him speechless.

Faith and doubt can never go hand in hand. Jesus replied, “I tell you the truth, if you have faith and do not doubt, not only can you do what was done to the fig tree, but also you can say to this mountain, ‘Go, throw yourself into the sea,’ and it will be done.” (Matthew 21:21)

Doubt and unbelief are the number one reason why Christians do not get their prayers answered. God does not want us to live a dull life based on just a theory but wants His Word and promises to take life in our everyday being.

So therefore the more we increase in faith the more we grow out of doubt. So the next question is, how can we grow in faith? Well the Bible is very clear about it “Consequently, faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the word of Christ” (Romans 10:17)

Why be happy with just a saving knowledge when you can have a victorious spirit filled life through faith in Jesus Christ?

Are you calling on that mountain to move in Jesus name?
